Eddie earns nomination for goal

Crows forward Eddie Betts has secured an AFL Goal of the Year nomination for his remarkable effort in his 300th AFL game against Gold Coast on Sunday.

With five goals already to his name, the champion small forward saved his best for last with just six minutes remaining in the Easter Sunday clash.

Co-captain Rory Sloane kicked the Sherrin long to a one-on-one contest in the forward pocket between Betts and Suns defender Jarrod Harbrow.

Harbrow spoiled the ball with his left arm, but it bobbed up perfectly into the lap of Betts.

Right on the boundary line, about 30 metres out from goal, Betts took one step and took aim with a left-foot checkside kick.

The 300-gamer made it look effortless, watching the ball sail over the goal umpire’s head as the Adelaide Oval crowd, as well as the Fox Footy commentary team, went wild.

The goal came from the same pocket as Betts’ 2015 and 2016 Goal of the Year winners.

Geelong’s Gary Ablett and Fremantle’s Brandon Matera have also been nominated this week by AFL Media’s footy experts, but the winning goal is in the hands of the fans. Click here to vote for Eddie’s goal.

Voting closes at 10am AEST on Wednesday April 24.
