The 2017 AFL season is set to be an exciting one. Aside from the typical excitement surrounding this favourite Aussie sport, there are many featured rounds to keep an eye out for. Following on from the success of the inaugural AFL Womens pre-season, the league is well aware that stepping outside the box of social expectations and bringing people together pays off. This is why the AFL are leaders in setting the bar high with their featured rounds.
A feature round to really watch out for this year is the multicultural round. This year the multicultural round will be a marquee clash between Greater Western Sydney and Fremantle. This round comes with a host of festivals that celebrate the multicultural of Australia and the sport. The AFL is committed to diversity throughout the league and this is a chance to celebrate it and showcase the talents that come from all corners of the globe and all backgrounds of players.
The multicultural round will start in round 19 with Hawthorn and Sydney kicking off at the MCG on the Friday night. The real focus will be on July 29 at Spotless Stadium when GWS and Fremantle battle it out and promote multiculturalism and diversity through Australia’s great sporting culture. This is a vital way to connect people to the sport and break down racial barriers so that Australia, and the sport, can have a better future.
