Melbourne’s Christian Petracca remains positive about season-ending injury

Christian+Petracca+NAB+AFL+Draft+Previews+CFh1IqS_3aMlMelbourne Demons’ draftee Christian Petracca has no hopes of gaining any attention on a CrownBet AFL Brownlow Medal Bonus Bet this season since the youngster recently tore his anterior cruciate ligament and will be sidelined for the entire 2015 AFL campaign. The 19-year-old suffered the injury to his left knee during a training session in mid-February and underwent surgery to repair the damage a week later. Petracca tore his knee in a marking contest and at first believed it was just a minor injury.

He spoke with his team’s official website and explained his injury by saying,

It’s pretty annoying because I’ve done that action probably a thousand times in basketball and football so it was just a once-off. After the incident, I felt all right. I was running after it and thought it was a hyper-extension.

Petracca has done away with his crutches and is now working on rehabilitating and strengthening his legs. He’s able to work out by swimming, bike riding and doing some training in the gym three times a week. Even though the teenager is out of action for the season there are plenty of other Demons players to back with a CrownBet AFL Brownlow Medal Bonus Bet.

There’s only me and Jack Trengove on long-term injuries and a few others who are just short-term“. This means Trengove won’t be a good choice for a CrownBet AFL Brownlow Medal Bonus Bet this year either. Petracca, who was chosen second in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft, hopes to start running sometime soon and then gradually work his way step by step into top condition. He added that the club’s physios are quite pleased with his progress up to now.

It’s never easy sitting out a season due to injury, but the on-baller said he’s staying positive and sees the setback as a new challenge and a part of life that he just has to accept and move on from. He added that being sidelined will allow him to help Melbourne’s recruiting team and to gain some insight and experience in opposition scouting. He has already watched a few TAC Cup contests and studied players during them. Don’t forget to do some scouting of your own before deciding who to back this year with a CrownBet AFL Brownlow Medal Bonus Bet.
