Feature Game #1 – Geelong Cats vs Sydney Swans
When: Friday, 7:50pm
Where: Simonds Stadium, Geelong
Odds: Swans $1.90, Cats $1.95
The Round kicks off with a crucial top eight clash between the Cats and Swans in Geelong.
The Cats returned to form with a comfortable win over the Blues last round. They sit 2nd on the ladder but they’ll be missing their best player (Dangerfield) this week.
The Swans lost against the Hawks last week and they’re 6th on the ladder. However, they still have a 7-1 record since May.
The Cats are 15-1 in the past 16 matches at Geelong but the one loss was against Sydney Swans last season. While the Swans won the last meeting at the venue, they have a 2-10 record since 2000.
The Patrick Dangerfield suspension headlines this match as he’ll miss one week. Nakia Cockatoo is also out with a hamstring. Zach Guthrie and Sam Simpson are the inclusions. For the Swans, they’re missing captain Josh Kennedy with a hamstring and Sam Naismith is out injured. Kurt Tippett is back in the side, along with Gary Rohan, Sam Reid and Jake Lloyd.
Sydney have the advantage over the Cats lately with a 4-1 record since 2014. They also beat the Cats by 37 points at the MCG in the Preliminary Final last season.
Both sides are missing key players but the Swans have four inclusions into their team that will help against the Cats. Tippett, Reid and Rohan will strengthen the forward line and the Swans missed Lloyd last week. Dangerfield has collected 30+ disposals in the last two meetings and the Cats will struggle to replace him.
They’ve also lost the last two meetings by 6 goals. This will be a closer match but the Swans are the better tip.
Feature Game #2 – Adelaide Crows vs Port Adelaide
Round 20 concludes with the Showdown in Adelaide between the top ranked team in the Crows versus the Power.
Adelaide survived last week after a goal on the siren gave them a draw against the Magpies. They haven’t lost since Round 14 and they’re aiming for a top finish on the ladder.
The Power also survived last week but they earned the four points against the Saints with a late goal. They sit 5th on the ladder and a victory could push them into the top four.
The Power are 6-3 at the Adelaide Oval this season and they’ve won two in a row. While the Crows are 8-2 in their 10 matches at the venue this season.
The Crows have named three important inclusions: Brad Crouch, Jake Lever and Eddie Betts. The Power are missing Matthew Broadbent and they’ll cull their squad of 25 into 22 tomorrow.
The Crows are 4-0 against the Power since 2015 and won by 17 points in Round 3 this season. Overall the head to head record at Adelaide Oval is 6-2 in the Crows favour. The Power’s last win in the Showdown was back in Round 5, 2015.
Both sides weren’t at there best last week but they’ll step up for the Showdown.
The Crows have brought back a few stars for this clash and they’re heavily favoured to win this match. In the last four meetings, the Crows have averaged 117.25 points scored and the Power will most likely struggle to contain them in defence. We’re tipping the Crows will continue their dominance over the Power with a 1-3 goals victory on Sunday.
