Feature Game #1 – Adelaide Crows vs Sydney Swans

When: Friday, 7:50pm
Where: Adelaide Oval, SA
Odds: Crows $1.68, Swans $2.25

Friday night footy is another belter as the Crows host the Swans at Adelaide Oval.

Adelaide are coming off large victories over the Bombers and Power. The average winning margin in the last two weeks is 63 points but the Swans are one of the form sides in the AFL, so they won’t be a pushover. The Crows sit 1st on the ladder and can wrap up the minor premiership with a win over the Swans.

Sydney smashed the Dockers by 104 points last week but the Crows will be a tougher task. They’ve lost just twice since the start of May and both losses were against the Hawks. In the last two wins, the Swans have kicked over 100 points and they beat the Cats by 46 points in Geelong previous to the Dockers win.

Venue Record:

The Crows have won 9 of 11 matches at the Adelaide Oval this season. Sydney haven’t played in Adelaide this season, but they lost against the Crows by 10 points at the venue last season.

Team News:

The Crows are unchanged and Taylor Walker plays his 150th AFL match. For the Swans, they bring skipper Josh Kennedy back and Nic Newman is out with injury.

The two sides met in the 2016 semi finals and Sydney won by 36 points at the SCG. Overall, the Swans are 5-1 against the Crows since the 2012 finals series.

Swans Win ($2.25)

The Crows are the early favourites but I think Sydney are playing well enough to cause an upset. Buddy Franklin loves playing the Crows (8 goals in last 2 meetings) and he kicked 4 last week. They’ll also be bolstered in the midfield with Josh Kennedy around the clearances. The Crows lost by 6 goals in the last meeting but this should be much closer in Adelaide. In the end, I’m going with the Swans by 1-2 goals.

Feature Game #2 – Western Bulldogs vs Port Adelaide Power

When: Saturday, 1:45pm
Where: Mars Stadium, Ballarat
Odds: Bulldogs $1.85, Power $2.00

Saturday afternoon football is an important clash between the Bulldogs and Power. It will also be the first AFL match played at Mars Stadium (Ballarat).

The Bulldogs lost against the Giants on Friday night footy and they slipped out of the top eight. But they’ve still won four of their past five matches.

Port Adelaide won against the Magpies last week and they sit 6th on the ladder. The Power are 2-2 in their last four matches so they are coming into this match with up and down form. Although, they could finish in the top four with two wins before the finals.

Venue Record:

This is a new AFL venue but the Power haven’t won in Melbourne against the Bulldogs since Round 15, 2003.

Team News:

For the Bulldogs, they’ve strengthened their backline with the inclusions of Dale Morris and Jason Johannisen. But Jack Redpath is out with suspension and Mitch Wallis was dropped. While for the Power, they’ve lost Ah Chee, Impey and Pittard. Todd Marshall makes his debut and Sam Powell-Pepper is back from a rest.

Since 2006, the Bulldogs have dominated the Power with a 10-3 record. They’ve won three in a row against the Power at Etihad Stadium as well.

Bulldogs Win ($1.85)

The Bulldogs are the favourites in the betting as they have a great record against the Power, especially in Melbourne. They’ve improved their backline and the Power have lost some key players in defence. With a finals spot on the line, I think the Bulldogs will get the job done.
