Steve Johnson believes in Geelong’s chances

Geelong’s Steve Johnson said he turned down a tremendous offer to sign long-term with Greater Western Sydney last year during the AFL’s trade period to remain with Geelong in hopes of winning a fourth premiership. Johnson recently spoke on with SEN radio and admitted that he didn’t take GWS’s offer too seriously last October even though his contract with Geelong was set to expire at the end of this year. Geelong fans are pleased with his decision and will be looking to back the team with their BetEasy AFL Bonus Bet.

Johnson remarked,

“I really didn’t get a good chance to consider it because I was overseas on a golf trip and I think it was a day or two before the trade deadline finished. At the end of the day, my initial reaction was that I believed I had a really good opportunity to play in a premiership again next season at Geelong and that’s pretty much as far as I considered it. I was flattered by the offer from GWS to come up there for however long it was, but I’m certainly happy where I am at the moment. It probably wasn’t the time for me to really look at that sort of thing.”

Johnson revealed that he was given some time off of training recently due to a foot problem which bothered him last year and caused him to miss four of his squad’s last five games. He said he was disappointed to sit out the Cats’ semi-final defeat to North Melbourne. The 2007 Norm smith medal winner has started to run to get back into shape and is aiming to be ready for the beginning of the upcoming 2015 campaign. According to Johnson, the problem was caused by bone stress, but he feels it’s more or less behind him now. He added that he had been running a lot during the preseason and his foot was a bit sore one morning so the club felt it was best to give him a bit of a rest by sending him to the Gold Coast. Geelong and the team’s fans are keeping their fingers crossed that Johnson will be ready for round one and will be wagering on their side with the BetEasy AFL Bonus Bet.
