Brisbane Lions

From starting out as the Fitzroy Lions and merging with the Brisbane in 1996, the Brisbane Lions have gone a long way since. The Lions are one of the most successful clubs of the 21st century, with four consecutive grand finals under their belt from 2001 to 2004. The home ground of the Brisbane Lions is at the Gabba in Brisbane.

The Lions were part of history in 2017 with the creation of an AFL womens side to take part in the pre-season. The biggest rivalries for the Brisbane Lions are Collingwood Magpies and Port Adelaide. With Collingwood, this rivalry goes back to the days before the merger happened as the neighbouring suburbs of Collingwood and Fitzroy were always in fierce competition with one another. The club’s theme song is called “The Pride of Brisbane Town” and plays to the music of the French national anthem, “La Marseillaise”.
