Essendon Bombers

Essendon Bombers & Guernsey AFL
One of the oldest clubs in the AFL, Essendon has been around since the beginning of the VFL and merged with the AFL in 1990. This club is widely supported around the country, beyond it’s associated suburb of Essendon, especially amongst Indigenous communities where the team has made a big presence. The club plays most home games at Etihad Stadium or the MCG, but still has loyal ties to its training ground of Windy Hill in Essendon.

In the footy career of this team, Essendon has won 20 premierships, 4 in the VFL and 16 in the AFL. The players of Essendon proudly wear their colours of red and black. They were part of creating the ‘clash for cancer’ match where players wear yellow armbands in support for cancer research and to raise funds. This became an annual event in 2012. The club mascot is a mosquito named Skeeta Reynolds, named in honour of the team’s back-to-back premiership wins in the 1920s when they were known as the ‘mosquito fleet’.
