North Melbourne Kangaroos

North Melbourne Kangaroos Logo & Guernsey AFL

The fourth oldest club in the AFL league, the Kangaroos are amongst the oldest sporting leagues in the world. The club mascot of a grey kangaroo has been used since the mid 20th century. North Melbourne experienced great victory in the 1960s when Allen Aylett helped the team reach supremacy. They defeated the Sydney Swans in the 1996 grand final.

In 2002, many North Melbourne were caught up in the Bali bombings terrorist attack. Jason McCartney suffered severe burns from the incident, but played another match in 2003 before retiring immediately after. Many changes happened to the team in the 21st century, with Brad Scott replacing Dean Laidley as coach in 2009. The club made it to the finals again in 2012, the first time since 2008 and in 2014 they finished 8th on the ladder. In 2016, the club was excited to announce that they had more than 45,000 members supporting the royal blue and white Roos.
