Port Adelaide’s Brendon Ah Chee aims to live up to expectations

Midfielder Brendon Ah Chee of Port Adelaide is concerned about his performance this year as he’s aiming to make his senior AFL debut as soon as possible. The 21-year-old said it’s one thing being touted as a player who has a lot of potential, but it’s another thing to live up to it by performing well. Ah Chee has been touted as a can’t-miss prospect due to his versatility, speed, and size, but the 21-year-old remarked that he needs to prove the experts are right this term.

The youngster had a good season in the SANFL in 2012 with the Port Adelaide Magpies and placed eighth in the team’s best and fairest award voting. Some fans may want to back him this year in the BetEasy AFL Best and Fairest betting market. But while Ah Chee enjoyed a pretty good campaign in 2014 he also had a few injuries to deal with and feels that may have set him back. Early on in the last two preseasons he has had to undergo operations on his knee for patella tendonitis. He was then out of action for three months following each surgery.

Ah Chee has been able to remain healthy so far this preseason and Port Adelaide head coach Ken Hinkley has decided to give him a another shot at a roster spot. The player recently told the media, “The first few years for me were a bit injury ravaged in the preseason so this is the first stretch I’ve been doing non-stop training. This preseason I’ve gone to Dubai, did that with all the boys and got through that, I haven’t missed a training session yet so fitness wise and getting battle hardened I’m already a few steps ahead.”

He added that he doesn’t have anything to lose this year and he’s hoping to repay the faith Hinkley has shown in him. He plans on doing that by giving it his all during training sessions and practice matches. Hinkley offered Ah Chee a one-year contract extension because the young player impressed him over the second half of last season. He feels he owes something to Hinckley for believing in him and that it’s about time he started living up to his potential as a good football player. Fans of Ah Chee and any other player can back them in the 2015 season via a wager for the BetEasy AFL Best and Fairest player award.
